Righting wrongs for elders

On Behalf of | Aug 22, 2020 | News |

People in Indiana should be aware that many of society’s elders face hardships. These can be legacies from the past or related to the physical troubles that come with aging. They can also be related to mistreatment in the present. Sadly, nursing home neglect is a real problem for many Americans in their golden years.

Righting wrongs of the past

In some cases, elders are seeing justice done after several decades. Even while some people are dealing with nursing home neglect resulting in injury, others are finally getting the results they always deserved. One example of this is a man who, due to discrimination, didn’t receive his master’s degree from Auburn during the 1960s. He had to finish at another school. But recently, the university relented and sent him his diploma.

Physical safety for seniors

Senior citizens are among the most physically vulnerable people in society. Due to their age and health problems, many seniors rely on help from family or health care workers. For seniors who live in assisted living or skilled nursing homes, this can be a dangerous thing. Many caregivers have little training, and some have not even passed a background check.

The senior care industry needs to be kept honest, and personal injury attorneys may assist when it comes to this issue. By filing suit and naming abusive caregivers, senior residents can take their power back. They and their families can set precedents that make the world better for other seniors, too. An attorney may help an injured senior receive compensation for their injuries, and negligent nursing homes or staff may have to pay punitive damages to prevent the problem from happening again.
