Accidents happen every day in Indiana, and sometimes they are true accidents and unavoidable. Other times, someone makes a poor decision and gets behind the wheel when they should not be, resulting in an accident that changes not only their lives but the lives of everyone involved. TheIndianapolis Star says it appears this is what happened in an accident that killed a husband and wife and seriously injured another woman who remains in the hospital.
The man arrested was driving a dump truck erratically before he rear-ended a vehicle, crossed the center median and proceeded to hit a minivan. The couple inside the van were both killed when they were hit. Law enforcement officials estimate that 11 vehicles were involved in the accident. After the accident, the dump truck driver failed a sobriety test and appeared to be laughing and smiling during the test. He reported to police that earlier in the day he had snorted heroin. He now faces six felony counts for the accident along with one count for leaving the accident.
Earlier in the day, there was a white dump truck involved in another hit and run, although the man claimed he had no recollection of being involved in that accident. Police say his truck matched the description of the vehicle involved in that accident although they did not confirm if it was him.
As a family mourns the loss of their elderly parents, another victim is in the hospital suffering from fractures to the spine, pelvis and spine and spinal cord injuries. Her life will never be the same and she may deserve compensation for her medical costs, pain and suffering and property repair.
