Eleven tons of pumpkins may be a bit extreme for a pie bake-off, but it was the perfect amount for Potawatomi Zoo’s 2013 “Zoo Boo” and “Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular” festivities! That’s right, as a proud Event Sponsor, Sweeney Julian hauled in nearly a dozen tons of pumpkins to embellish and illuminate the Zoo’s winding paths for both spooktacular events.
On October 24, 2013, “Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular” was held for adults only (twenty-one and over). Wine leaked from bubbling cauldrons and beer supernaturally flowed from iron spouts into glow in the dark goblets. Costumed humans and a live DJ awakened the dead with the “Monster Mash,” and an assortment of grub was also available (for purchase) to fuel the creatures of the night.
“Zoo Boo” took place from October 25 th through October 27 th of 2013. This event was geared toward young children, which provided the ideal setting for safe trick-or-treating within the community. Reportedly, several eyewitnesses claim to have spotted frightening werewolf packs in strollers and numerous drooling, teething goblins at many of the Zoo’s sinful treat stations. Tales of Magicians enchanting the lines while performing magic tricks were also reported to Sweeney Julian.
